The Wedding Party's Guide to Not Ruining the Grand Entrance

Bridesmaids and Groomsmen, this guide is for you.

The Grand Entrance is the moment the reception officially begins. The doors open, the music drops, the crowd goes wild, and you walk out. When done right, it looks like a scene from a movie. When done wrong, it looks like a middle school talent show.

As wedding DJs who have introduced thousands of bridal parties, here are the absolute rules for nailing your entrance.

1. Do Not Overcomplicate the "Skit"

The biggest mistake a groomsman and bridesmaid pair makes is planning a highly choreographed, 30-second skit or dance routine at the doorway.

Why it fails:

1. The DJ is calling names every 5 to 7 seconds. If you stop in the doorway to do a full choreographed handshake, you create a massive traffic jam.

2. The guests cannot hear your inside joke.

3. You are stealing the spotlight from the bride and groom.

The Pro Move: Keep it under 5 seconds. A quick spin, a high-five, or a dramatic pose, and then *keep moving toward your table*. The energy comes from the momentum, not the complexity.

2. Space It Out

The most common error is walking out immediately on the heels of the couple in front of you.

The Pro Move: Wait for the DJ to actually say your names. When the couple in front of you hits the middle of the dance floor, *then* you step through the doorway. This gives the photographer time to capture them, and ensures you get your own clean photo without someone's head in the background.

3. Match the DJ's Energy

If the DJ drops a massive hip-hop anthem and screams your name into the microphone, you cannot casually stroll out looking at your phone. You have to match the frequency of the room.

The Pro Move: Smile. Hype up the crowd. Raise your hands. You are the opening act for the couple. Your job is to whip the seated guests into a frenzy so that when the Bride and Groom finally emerge, the room is already vibrating.

4. Know Your Destination

Where are you going after you walk out?

  • Are you forming a tunnel on the dance floor?
  • Are you going straight to the head table?
  • Are you standing around the perimeter?

The Pro Move: Clarify this with the coordinator *before* the music starts. Nothing kills the vibe faster than a bridal party walking out and then awkwardly wandering around the dance floor because they don't know where to stand.
