Do wedding DJs bring their own dance floor lighting?

Yes, almost all professional wedding DJs provide some form of dance floor lighting in their standard packages. At SBS Events, high-quality, dynamic lighting is included with every reception package.

What is "Standard" Dance Floor Lighting?

Standard lighting typically refers to lighting fixtures mounted on the DJ facade or a light stand that wash the dance floor in color and movement. This usually includes:

  • Wash lighting: Fills the floor with shifting colors that match the tempo of the music.
  • Effect lighting: Lasers, moving heads, or Derby lights that project moving patterns across the floor and walls.

During dinner and formal dances, we keep the lighting static and elegant (often a warm white or a color matching your theme). When the dance floor opens, the lighting becomes sound-active, reacting to the beat and elevating the energy of the room to a club-like atmosphere.

What is NOT Included (Upgrades)

While dance floor lighting is standard, "venue enhancement" lighting is typically an upgrade. This includes:

  • Wireless Uplighting: Fixtures placed around the perimeter of the room to wash the walls and architectural features in your wedding colors. This dramatically transforms the entire room, not just the dance floor.
  • Custom Monograms: A projection of your names, initials, or wedding date onto the wall or dance floor.
  • Cold Sparks & Fog: Special atmospheric effects like "Dancing on a Cloud" (low-lying dry ice fog for the first dance) or indoor-safe cold spark fountains.

Always ask your DJ to clarify exactly what lighting is included in your package. A great light show makes a massive difference in how your photographer captures the dance floor!
