Florida weather is notoriously unpredictable, especially during the summer months. If it rains on your outdoor wedding, your preparation (and your vendors' preparation) dictates whether it's a minor inconvenience or a major disaster.
The Backup Plan is Mandatory
When you book an outdoor venue in Florida, you are also booking its indoor backup space. If you hate the backup space, do not book the venue. You must be at peace with moving your ceremony or reception indoors.
Your coordinator and your DJ will typically make the "rain call" 2-3 hours before the ceremony begins. This gives vendors enough time to safely break down outdoor equipment and reset indoors.
How Rain Affects Your Entertainment
Electronics and water do not mix. If the radar shows an imminent downpour, your DJ cannot risk leaving thousands of dollars of exposed audio equipment on a lawn.
Professional DJs (like SBS Events) use specialized gear and covered setups to protect equipment from damp night air or a passing drizzle. However, in the event of a severe storm, we must move indoors. We always work with your coordinator to ensure a seamless transition so your guests never experience a lapse in music or entertainment.
The Silver Lining
Dramatic Florida skies — brooding clouds, golden light breaking through storm cover, the smell of rain on hot asphalt — produce some of the most extraordinary wedding photos imaginable. Trust your photographer to capture the magic of a rainy wedding day.
